you don’t have a capability problem
you have a confidence  problem

I fix that.

You’re in the right place if:

you own a small business, run a solo practice, or freelance

You want to build something sustainable‍ and profitable, on your own terms

You’re ready to move but need help with a critical decision

You're ready to be honest about what isn't working

Chris Arruda, owner of Bright Idea.

This isn’t for you if:

your primary motivation is growth at all costs

you’re looking for validation, not a real assessment

you’re not ready to act on a new strategy

You want a quick fix without any follow through required

The problem

everywhere you look, someone is talking about scaling to seven figures.

everywhere you look, someone is talking

about scaling to seven figures.

most of the business owners i talk to want to earn $100k and get to their kid’s dance recital on time.

You probably didn't start your business to build an empire. You probably started it to make a good living doing work you actually care about, while still making it home for dinner.

The desire to scale is cultural.

It's not yours unless you choose it.

Chris Arruda, Bright Idea Consultant & Founder

You’re here because you’ve discovered the gap between wanting a great business and knowing how to build one.

Most small business owners are amazing at their craft, but the marketing, the branding, the website, the communications, all the elements they didn't train for - those are different skillsets entirely.

That’s where I help.

02 the bright idea ecosystem Audit

the offers

01 the bright idea working session

$300 Single / $750 Three-Pack

60 minute ✦ Strategy Document Included

This is for you if:

  • You're a tradesperson just starting out

  • You need to market but don't know how

  • Business is busy, but you’re not making money

  • You're always working but things don’t improve

  • You’re facing an important decision alone

Our work begins with a thoughtful discussion about your goals, both lifestyle and financial. How you started, where you are now, and most importantly, where you want it to go.

Most people come to a Working Session during a moment of transition. They might be starting something new, facing a decision they don't feel equipped to make alone, or trying something that just isn't working, and they’re not sure why.

These conversations tend to be detailed and nuanced. Competing goals surface and assumptions get examined. Many clients find clarity, or make the decision they've been sitting on before we even get to the deliverable.

After our session, I invest time researching and thinking through your specific situation before preparing a detailed Strategy Document. These documents run three to five pages and are built to be acted on immediately. You can implement it yourself, hand it to someone else, or work with me on the next steps.

02 The Bright Idea
Ecosystem audit

Starting at $1500 CAD

Deliverables scoped at kickoff

This is for you if:

  • You need an informed outside perspective

  • You're not seeing a return on marketing spend

  • Your marketing feels disconnected

  • Your brand hasn’t kept up with growth

  • You’ve been burned by an agency before

A full diagnosis of your brand and communications infrastructure: what's working, what isn't, and what it's costing you.

Your website. Your branding. Your social media. Your email marketing, ads and events. Every single one of these elements has a deep impact on how your business shows up, and they all need to sing the same song!

My audit process is a deep dive into how your business communicates and markets itself. Once I have the full picture, every single piece gets examined:

  • Is it earning its place in your ecosystem?

  • Does it align with your brand and strategy?

  • Is it efficient and worth the cost or energy?

We finish with a working call to outline my findings and you'll receive a detailed report with clear observations, honest assessments, and specific recommendations tied directly to your goals.

You’ll leave with a plan you can act on immediately.

“What sets Bright Idea apart is Chris' integrity and his ability to deliver an experience that feels truly authentic to the brand.”

03 the bright idea web build

Starting at $3500

Full digital brand ✦ Built and launched

This is for you if:

  • You're a sole practitioner starting from scratch

  • You're a mental health professional and marketing feels impossible

  • Your current site doesn't reflect your work

  • You've outgrown a DIY build

  • You want it done right the first time

Most small business websites miss before anyone sees them. Not because they don't look good, but because the brand and messaging behind them were never fully developed.

A Bright Idea web build starts with your brand. Who you are, the problem you solve, and what makes you different. We make sure your business shows up in the digital world in a way that feels like you.

The website is the last thing we tackle because it’s a natural extension of the brand foundation we’ve already built.

We start with a kickoff call to understand how you want to show up. From there we nail down your colours, typography, and visual identity. Once the branding is locked, I’ll write the copy. There’s time to review and revise to make sure we get it right. Once the copy is locked, we build.

SEO is built in from day one.

The result isn't just a website. It's a brand with a home.

04 The bright idea
fractional marketing director

From $2000/month

Custom scoped ✦ Post-audit preferred

This is for you if:

  • You need dedicated support, but can't justify a hire

  • You've completed an audit need execution

  • Your marketing is falling through the cracks

  • You want a senior mind in your business without the overhead

  • You need the right things done, not everything

Most small businesses can't afford a full-time marketing hire. Most don't need one either.

A fractional engagement gives you a senior marketing brain in your business, right-sized to what you actually need. Strategy, execution, and everything in between, without the overhead of a full-time salary.

Every engagement is scoped at kickoff. Some clients need someone to run their entire communications operation. Others need a strategic partner who shows up consistently and keeps things moving. We figure out what fits and build from there.

What a fractional engagement might include:

  • Strategy and planning

  • Social media management

  • Newsletter and blog writing

  • Ad and campaign development

  • Budget management

  • Sales process support

  • Web updates and maintenance

  • Scheduling and execution

Not everything. The right things.

Chris Arruda of Bright Idea leading the MEC Nanaimo Grand Opening.

MEC needed their new Nanaimo store to feel like a community event, not a corporate launch. Over 2,000 customers came through per day. The playbook we built is now the model for future MEC openings.

A beloved community organization needed a brand voice, a communications strategy, and the digital infrastructure to support any of it. Two years in, the results speak for themselves.

A group of psychologists needed a name, a vision, a set of values, and a complete brand identity before they could open their doors. I helped them build all of it from scratch.

about bright idea
Chris Arruda, small business consultant

Hi, I’m Chris!

I've had a lot of careers in my life.

I've had no money. I've had good money.

I've built businesses, worked in brand management, toured internationally as a musician, and spent decades figuring out what actually makes a small business work.

After all of that, here’s what I know for sure:

I absolutely love seeing people succeed!

It's why I do this.

Chris Arruda of Bright Idea on the NIC campus.

I started Bright Idea because small businesses deserve better than what the consulting and coaching industry has been selling them. Bloated strategies, overpriced retainers, and services built to bill and not to deliver results.

I work with small business owners, sole practitioners, and freelancers because the wins are real and the stakes are personal. When a therapist finally has a website that feels like them, or a tradesperson going out on their own lands their first client because their brand is clear, that's the work I love. That's why I'm here.

I live on Vancouver Island with my wife and our two doggos, Sunday and Junebug. When I'm not working, I'm outside hiking, biking, relaxing, and remembering why building a lifestyle business is a beautiful thing!

Chris Arruda with his wife in the Yukon.
