YOU DO GREAT WORK

PEOPLE JUST DON’T

KNOW IT YET

you do great work

PEOPLE JUST DON’T KNOW IT YET

I fix that.

You’re in the right place if:

you’re spending real money on marketing and can’t fully trace it

You’d rather know what’s working than add something new

You’re ready to move but need help with a critical decision

You're ready to be honest about what isn't working

Chris Arruda, owner of Bright Idea.

This isn’t for you if:

your primary motivation is growth at all costs

you’re looking for validation, not a real assessment

you’re not ready to act on a new strategy

You want a quick fix without any follow through required

The problem

years of decisions. none of them made at the same time.

years of decisions.

none of them made at the same time.

a website from 2019. agency work from 2022. social accounts your last admin still has access to. line items that no one remembers approving.

  • a website from 2019.

  • agency work from 2022.

  • social accounts your last admin still has access to.

  • line items that no one remembers approving.

Chris Arruda, Bright Idea Consultant & Founder

Every single one of those decisions was correct when you made it. But budgets renew at last year’s number. Channels and vendors stay active because switching requires an informed decision.

Someone needs to look at the whole picture.

So the decisions stop making themselves.

Chris Arruda, Bright Idea Owner

“What sets Bright Idea apart is Chris' integrity and his ability to deliver an experience that feels truly authentic to the brand.”

the offers

01 the bright idea working session

$300 Single / $750 Three-Pack

60 minute ✦ Strategy Document Included

This is for you if:

  • Referrals have slowed and you can’t say why

  • You’re about to spend and want an informed opinion

  • Business is busy, but you’re not making money

  • Something changed and the marketing or communications haven’t caught up

  • You’re facing an important decision alone

Our work begins with a thoughtful discussion about your goals, both lifestyle and financial. How you started, where you are now, and most importantly, where you want it to go.

Most people come to a Working Session during a moment of transition. They might be starting something new, facing a decision they don't feel equipped to make alone, or trying something that just isn't working, and they’re not sure why.

These conversations tend to be detailed and nuanced. Competing goals surface and assumptions get examined. Many clients find clarity, or make the decision they've been sitting on before we even get to the deliverable.

After our session, I invest time researching and thinking through your specific situation before preparing a detailed Strategy Document. These documents run three to five pages and are built to be acted on immediately. You can implement it yourself, hand it to someone else, or work with me on the next steps.

02 the bright idea Audit

02 The Bright Idea
Ecosystem audit

Starting at $1500 CAD

Priced to the size of what I’m reviewing

This is for you if:

  • You’re spending real money you can’t fully trace

  • Nobody owns your marketing, so it happens in pieces

  • Your brand hasn’t kept up with growth

  • You’re about to invest and want an informed opinion

  • You’ve been burned by an agency before

Recently reviewed $72,000 in marketing spend.

Nobody in the business knew what it bought.

You'll leave with a defensible annual marketing budget, a ranked set of priorities, and a straight answer on who should run it - even if that isn't me.

Getting there means a full accounting of what your marketing costs and what it returns. Your website, your brand, your channels, your spend, the vendors, and every tool that might be on autopilot. Everything you're paying for, and everything you've stopped paying attention to.

Every piece gets the same three questions:

  • Is it earning its place?

  • Does it align with your brand and strategy?

  • Is it worth the cost or energy?

It ends with a working call and a written report that's yours to keep. You'll know what to keep, what to cut, and what to fix first.

03 the bright idea
web build

Starting at $3500

Full digital brand ✦ Built and launched

This is for you if:

  • Your website is the oldest thing about your business

  • You’ve changed direction and the site hasn’t

  • Your website undersells you and you know it

  • You've outgrown a DIY build

  • The site works but it’s embarrassing to send

Most small business websites miss before anyone sees them. Not because they don't look good, but because the brand and messaging behind them were never fully developed.

A Bright Idea web build starts with your brand. Who you are, the problem you solve, and what makes you different. We make sure your business shows up in the digital world in a way that feels like you.

The website is the last thing we tackle because it’s a natural extension of the brand foundation we’ve already built.

We start with a kickoff call to understand how you want to show up. From there we nail down your colours, typography, and visual identity. Once the branding is locked, I’ll write the copy. There’s time to review and revise to make sure we get it right. Once the copy is locked, we build.

SEO is built in from day one.

The result isn't just a website. It's a brand with a home.

04 fractional marketing director

Custom Scoped

Limited Availability ✦ Post-audit preferred

This is for you if:

  • You've completed an audit and need execution

  • You need someone accountable for this, not another vendor

  • Your marketing is falling through the cracks

  • You want a senior mind in your business without the overhead

  • You need the right things done, not everything

Plenty of businesses could hire a marketing director. Fewer actually need one full-time.

A fractional engagement gives you a senior marketing brain in your business, right-sized to what you actually need. Strategy, execution, and everything in between, without the overhead of a full-time salary.

Every engagement is scoped at kickoff. Some clients need someone to run their entire communications operation. Others need a strategic partner who shows up consistently and keeps things moving. I figure out what fits and we build from there.

What a fractional engagement might include:

  • Strategy and planning

  • Social media management

  • Newsletter and blog writing

  • Ad and campaign development

  • Budget management

  • Web updates and maintenance

  • Scheduling and execution

mec nanaimo grand opening

Chris Arruda of Bright Idea leading the MEC Nanaimo Grand Opening.

MEC needed their new Nanaimo store to feel like a community event, not a corporate launch. Over 2,000 customers came through per day. The playbook we built is now the model for future MEC openings.

inside a bright idea audit

A thirty-eight-year-old construction company was spending $72,000 a year on marketing. Nobody in the business knew what it bought. This is a real audit, rebuilt as a composite, with three pages from the document.

A beloved community organization needed a brand voice, a communications strategy, and the digital infrastructure to support any of it. Two years in, the results speak for themselves.

A group of psychologists needed a name, a vision, a set of values, and a complete brand identity before they could open their doors. I helped them build all of it from scratch.

about bright idea
Chris Arruda, small business consultant

Hi, I’m Chris!

I've had a lot of careers in my life.

I've had no money. I've had good money.

I've built businesses, worked in brand management, toured internationally as a musician, and spent decades figuring out what actually makes a business work.

After all of that, here’s what I know for sure:

I absolutely love seeing people succeed!

It's why I do this.

Chris Arruda of Bright Idea on the NIC campus.

I started Bright Idea because business owners deserve better than what the consulting and marketing industry has been selling them. Bloated strategies, overpriced retainers, and services built to bill and not to deliver results.

I work with business owners who have built something real, and know there’s a version of it that could be sharper. The stakes are personal, the decisions are theirs, and they want someone to tell them the truth rather than sell them a service they don’t need.

I live on Vancouver Island with my wife and our two dogs, Sunday and Junebug. When I'm not working, I'm outside hiking, biking, relaxing, and remembering that the business is supposed to fit the life, not the other way around.
